The WEAs and Windsor Mayor’s Arts Awards & Grants Celebration

The Windsor Endowment for the Arts (WEA) and the City of Windsor are pleased to be partnering once again to deliver The WEAs, and the Windsor Mayor’s Arts Awards (WMAA) Celebration.

At the celebration, WEA will bestow 5 Art Leadership Awards of merit to these local art leaders: Dr. Clara Howitt, Sarah Jarvis, Phog Lounge, Michael K. Potterand Carl Lavoy

We will also distribute 11 Art Grants totalling $29,000 to regional artists and arts organizations. This includes our new $3,000 Emerging Artist in Film Arts Grant to a local filmmaker. The names of the grant recipients will be revealed at the ceremony.

The City of Windsor will bestow 3 Windsor Mayor’s Art Awards to an Individual Artist, Arts Organization, and Arts Volunteer.

Outdoors at the Vision Corridor; 401 Riverside Drive West; Alongside the facility that houses the Chimczuk Museum and Art Windsor-Essex (formerly AGW).
* Indoor shelter available in case of inclement weather. 

SEATING: Chairs will be set up for 100 guests
PARKING: Free parking in lots near the gallery

  • Opening Remarks: WEA President Stephanie Barnhard
  • Musical Performance: Florine Ndimubandi, singer
  • Windsor Mayor’s Arts Awards Presentation: Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens will present an individual artist, arts organization, and arts volunteer with three keepsake awards, as well as an honorarium.
  • WEA’s Art Leadership Awards Presentation: Special Guests will present awards to 4 Art Leaders in Community Arts, Literary Arts, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts.
  • In Memoriam Presentation: In honour of the artists and arts patrons our region lost since the last WEAs Ceremony in 2020 the names will be read aloud by Christopher Lawrence Menard who will also recite a poem from his recently published “at the end, beginnings”. With a musical performance by  4th Wall Music.
  • WEA’s Emerging Artist Grants and Youth Grants Presentation: Special Guests will present 6 artists/arts organizations with cash grants.
  • Musical Performance: Florine Ndimubandi, singer and Kathleen Hughes, singer
  • WEA’s Arts Infrastructure Grants Presentation: Special Guests will present 4 arts organizations with cash grants.
  • Closing Remarks: WEA President Stephanie Barnhard

THE VISION CORRIDOR

The VISION CORRIDOR is located OUTSIDE Art Windsor-Essex (formerly AGW) and the Chimczuk Museum.

Seating for 100+ guests and the Show Mobile Stage will be set up in the grassy area in the image.

GALLERY & MUSEUM EXTENDED HOURS

Our friends at Art Windsor-Essex (formerly the AGW) and the Chimczuk Museum will be extending their hours of operation so guests of the WEAs and WMAAs can explore the exhibits before the celebration kicks off.

  • Art Windsor-Essex will remain open until 7:00 PM
  • Chimczuk Museum will remain open until 8:30 PM
  • WEA & WMAA guests will be granted access to the washroom facilities on the main floor of the building

PERFORMERS

FLORINE NDIMUBANDI is a Burundian-Canadian singer who wowed audiences with her breakout performance of “Effie White” in Arts Collective Theatre’s 2018 production of Dreamgirls. She currently sings with the Windsor performing group The Broadway Bunch. She will be singing songs in English and French at the celebration.

CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE MENARD is a writer (stage, screen, fiction & poetry), actor, producer and director born and raised in Windsor, Ontario where he works in arts, culture & heritage with the City of Windsor. He will be reading selected poems from his newly released at the end, beginnings. A Memoir in Poems published by Black Moss Press.

AMY LEY Principal Harp with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, is the Artistic Director of 4th Wall Music, and teaches private harp, the Music for Young Children program, and at Hillsdale College in Michigan. She will be performing during WEA’s In Memoriam presentation.

KATHLEEN HUGHES is a Windsor singer, songwriter and rising star on Tik Tok, a platform where she showcases her singing talent to her 117,000 followers. She currently has three singles on all music platforms. She will be performing a duet with Florine in French.
